Lauryl Amine Oxide (L.A.O.) is a commonly used surfactant that is derived from coconuts. It is a popular anti-microbial agent used for cleansing and killing microbes at the same time. It has an excellent solubility in water but is insoluble in various organic solvents.

LAO appears as a clear yellow liquid, and is used as a viscosity modifier and foam enhancer for shampoos and shower gels. It is also applied as a foam enhancer and detergent in hard surface cleaners, sanitising products, dishwashing liquids, and car wash systems.
